About Applying for Grants

The Bloomington Garden Club offers community projects garden grants to nonprofit organizations


Each summer, The Bloomington Garden Club presents its annual Summer Garden Walk and Flower Show which raises several thousand dollars annually. The Club uses this money to award grants to selected nonprofit organizations that meet grant criteria to support community beautification and/or gardening education

. 

The Club is especially interested in encouraging love of gardening among children. Grants funded in the past include school garden programs, children’s club gardens, and Hilltop Gardens programs. 


Grants for outdoor classroom gardens may include 

any of the following kinds of gardens:

-- edible 

-- alphabet 

-- native 

-- companion plants 

-- pollinator 

-- butterfly 

-- perennial 

-- vegetable 

-- four-square 

-- rock 

-- herb 

-- sensory 

-- Mothers Day gift plants

(as well as others not listed here).


Criteria for Applying for a BGC grant:

  • submitted by a nonprofit organization in existence for at least three years
  • project clearly relates to The Bloomington Garden Club’s purposes of stimulating  knowledge (educates)
  • encourages youth gardening
  • stimulates a love of gardening 
  • protects native plants
  • encourages civic gardening
  • beautifies and benefits the community
  • project outcomes are used for nonprofit purposes
